WHAT ABOUT THE BEASTS?
The term "kidnapping" refers to forcibly removing an individual from their familiar environment and subjecting them to an unfamiliar and often hostile setting. Historically, it has involved unlawful abduction driven by motives such as ransom, coercion, or political leverage. This process detaches individuals from their natural contexts and places them in environments fraught with adversity and danger. The project "What About the Beasts?" explores this concept through paintings depicting animals often labeled as "beasts." These works subtly interrogate the notion of monstrosity, posing a critical question: Are the true "beasts" the animals depicted, or the individuals who engage in human trafficking? Through this representation, the project serves as a commentary on the moral and ethical dimensions of trafficking, prompting reflection on the dehumanizing nature of such practices and the nature of those who perpetrate them.
