STREETS AND HOMES
AND
AREAS AND TITLES
(Passive/Active)

In this exploration of written language, the project reveals the harsh reality of gender-based violence. Headlines from press stories reporting these crimes are transformed into haunting maps of pain. These 'drawn maps' depict the narratives and reveal the actual locations of the atrocities. Embedded within these maps are puddles of pink silicone, a recurring motif that represents the female form and serves as a poignant reminder of the body subjected to violence, invoking a sense of empathy and concern in the audience.
The accompanying photographs create a visual tapestry that maps the approximate locations of the crimes, incorporating one or two strips of pink silicone. These strips symbolize the sensationalism prevalent in media headlines and reflect the ostentatious nature of press titles. The gendered pink of the silicone underscores the way media often emphasizes and exploits female victimization, inviting the audience to critically reflect on this issue.
