MATER FAMILIAS
(Womb)
Over the years, the concept of family has undergone major changes. From the "pater familias" principle of the Roman time to the single parent family, the sex of the dominant parent did not constitute a determining factor for the family structure. In today's society, the idea of family has become extremely flexible. One of the main elements that led to these sociological mutations is the empowerment of women and the transfer of power that took place within the family structure.

The concept of family is becoming wider and one of the most representative cores of today's society is the one-parent family. In the case of the thematic artist's approach, the woman becomes the point of interest, being caught in a power-and yet vulnerable position - the whole decisional burden of a family falling exclusively on her shoulders. Besides the fact that the woman is the one who leads, all the active members of the family are female. In this case, a normalization of this form of development is sought in the current society. A specific is created, and the force of this particular specific is rendered by symbols. The artist becomes an anthropologist of his own family, digging in his history and customs, and dissecting them with implicit subjectivism. Mater familias touches the most intimate memories and traces, reproduced through its own perspective, which aims to exorcise the memory of the self, giving the viewer a deconstruction of moments and sacred memories for the artist.
This study is an invitation to deepen a family structure of this kind, making it accessible to the most intimate substrates by abstracting stories inherited from mother to daughter.
